Wednesday 19 October is the SHFCA2022 pre-conference Awards & Networking event at the McEwan Hall, including  presentation of the 2022 Stewart Dow Award and announcement of the winners of the SHFCA2022 Student Poster Competition.

Thursday 20 October is the SHFCA2022 annual conference at the McEwan Hall. The plenary session will focus on the importance of partnerships for growth of hydrogen across Scotland, and three other sessions will cover regional hubs with hydrogen infrastructure, scaling up hydrogen production, and building up early hydrogen demand.

Our 14th SHFCA2022 annual conference takes place on Wednesday 20th October 2022 as an in-person event at the prestigious McEwan Hall in Edinburgh. The Hydrogen Scotland programme brings together SHFCA members and guests with invited expert speakers who will highlight the steps needed to build the hydrogen economy across Scotland. Tickets for our SHFCA annual conference will be available for members and non-members, together with a range of exhibition stand and supporting member partner options.

The Hydrogen Scotland conference themes include building partnerships for growth, and sharing lessons learned across the hydrogen sector. Speakers will highlight opportunities with hydrogen and fuel cells as an enabler for energy system transition, and showcase exemplar projects and related activities that are building core skills and expertise. The conference includes member display and exhibition stands, together with a research poster competition as part of the extensive networking opportunities throughout the conference.

Our 14th SHFCA annual conference takes place at a pivotal moment in the growing hydrogen economy, with an increasing number of projects in Scotland being announced. Hydrogen Scotland will address the importance of building partnerships and sharing lessons learned as we scale up production of hydrogen to deliver Scotland’s target of 5GW low carbon hydrogen production by 2030. Speakers will highlight opportunities for development of local supply chains and skills, together with the distributed production of hydrogen as a key part of Just Transition.

The development of Scottish onshore and offshore wind capacity will enable production of green hydrogen at multi-GW scale. Scotland has access to 25% of Europe’s offshore wind potential, with Scotland’s ultimate offshore wind potential estimated at over 500GW. The recent ScotWind leasing round allocated offshore areas capable of an additional 25GW of offshore wind generation by the 2030’s, with further significant growth expected during the late 2030’s and 2040’s along with increased production of green hydrogen to meet the ambition of 25GW installed hydrogen capacity by 2045.

SHFCA2022 Hydrogen Scotland conference will also address thornier issues, including the ‘chicken and egg’ challenge. Collaboration to build the early demand for hydrogen across Scotland will be essential to create the market pull. This demand will underpin the development of local hydrogen production together the associated infrastructure including transportation with vehicle refuelling, and networks with building and industry heat.

Tickets for the 14th SHFCA annual conference are available for members and non-members, together with a range of exhibition stand and supporting member partner options. We look forward to setting the direction and pace at the first of a series of SHFCA Hydrogen Scotland events to support the growing hydrogen economy across Scotland.
